Marine Safety Experts agree... Charles Industries' Isolation Transformers
are the safest way to mitigate in-water shock.

There is an invisible danger in the water of many marinas. Each year, unsuspecting swimmers and boaters are killed by what is known as Electric Shock Drowning (ESD). Electricity can leak into the water at marinas from boats plugged into shore power from faulty or improperly installed power centers. Charles is working to spread the message of ESD Prevention through education, awareness, and the installation of marine electrical system protective devices, including Isolation Transformers.

  • An Isolation Transformer does not allow AC Electrical Current from your boat to “leak” out into the water!

  • An Isolation Transformer stops AC Stray Current in the water from entering your boat!

  • Other devices, like ELCI & RCD Breakers, just shut down your power when they sense current leakage. An Isolation Transformer can correct the power issue without shutting down power on your boat.

If you are a boat owner, have your boat inspected by an electrician with current ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) Electrical Certification or by an ABYC Certified Technician. Boats with alternating current (AC) systems should have isolation transformers or equipment leakage circuit interrupter (ELCI) protection, comply with American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards, and should be serviced by an ABYC Certified Technician.
